The San Francisco, California carnaval is an annual tradition. The 35'th carnaval was celebrated last week of May in 2013. The five cities that most influence the San Francisco carnaval are Rio de Janeiro and Salvador in Brazil, Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, Havana in Cuba and Ouro in Bolivia.
The celebration -- Mardi Gras or Carnival -- and parade sets out from the Mission District, which is a center for the Spanish speaking population.

This year was typical with skillfully choreographed dances and colorful costumes as well as body paints and makeup.
